Day 4 – part one, 1010 words, 20 minutes

Did a sprint about what the protagonist’s apartment looks like. Hit over a thousand words in twenty minutes. Didn’t worry about tone, or voice, or anything, just talked it through in writing.

Helped a lot. There’s definitely usable stuff there for the main body of the story. I’m going to try to do one or two more 20 minute sprints today and then write for an hour on the main story line. That should boost my word count as well.

next possible sprint topics:
– description of office
– description of police station
– description of Umut’s in Radio Row
– character study of the man in the glen plaid suit.

Day Three, 5280

Yeah I know, I should be at 10% after three days.

Still feels kinda cool though, to see ten percent done, woo-hoo!

notes: usually things start going faster around 1100 words.

today was an hour; yesterday was two hours; monday was an hour and a half.

I’m really trying to focus right now on not editing, striking out changes rather than editing them, and letting things, well, suck.

edited to say: just edited my 2007 posts to also be tagged with the day number (day 1, day 2, etc.)

Day Two, 3523

Yep. I decide to blog about NaNoWriMo again–because when I did it was the furthest I’d ever gotten.

Last night I started with no idea. Nothing. Managed to hit 1759 words.

The Chris Baty book really helped.

These posts will be short because… well, I’m hoping to write 1750 words each day this week.

Day Eleven, 12514

Almost caught up, but not quite. Just over 2000 words today, which takes me to 25% complete.

Unfortunately, that makes me still need almost 2000 words per day in order to keep up. But we’ll see how it goes. I need 25,000 words on Thursday, officially. If I can make 20,000, I’ll be happy. I did fairly well over this weekend–about 1800 words per day.

If I can, I’ll try to get another 500 words before sleep.

Day Ten

Took me a while this morning, but I got some done. Had to do some research on different background items.

Otherwise it’s going okay.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to do more later tonight. Any amount of words would be helpful so I can catch up. But I do feel like I”m back on track, which is excellent.

Day Nine, 8671

Back to writing… I’m hoping to get more done today, as I’m really only back on track, and barely. At this point, I have to write a lot more to make up for much of this week. Working til midnight on wednesday really didn’t help much.

Part of me wanted to give up, but honestly, one of my main goals was NOT to do that. To just keep going, the whole month. Even if I don’t make it.

process and completion.

Day Six, 7051

it’s far too late for me to still be awake… it’s going okay. I’m somewhat behind, but not so much that I’ve given up hope completely.

I’m finding it easy to write about 800-1000 words per day. Anything above that is very painful. Althought the first 400 words are definitely the slowest. I think if I were to give myself 45 minutes to an hour every day, I could really get some work on.

Also, I couldn’t write on Sunday. I needed the day off. So I’m thinking I will need to do that every once in a while. I’m considering taking Sundays off in general.

I have about one chapter done (20 pages, or thereabouts). It’s 7051 words–and I’m supposed to have 10003 by today. Oh well.

I haven’t given up yet. I hope, even if I don’t get the 50000 words, that I don’t give up at all. The story just might not need that many words.

Day Three, 5344

Last night was interesting. I took my laptop to see Lyle play, and worked on it there.

Wasn’t as easy as I had hoped. It was a little bit difficult to work there, and by the time I got home I was so tired it took me forever to get my word count.

I’m starting to worry that I will run out of ideas. I really feel like I shouldn’t be finishing this part of the arc so quickly. But maybe so.

At any rate, I’m not that far ahead on my count… only about 340 words… and I added in 500 words that I had written previously which I’m not sure really count. Still I’m about done for the night.

Day One, 1924 words

Okay, first day down.

Had a slow part. Added a new element to the story I liked.

I knew Zorashi would be there, but didn’t realize Highbourne would show up.

I had an idea of what my general plot would be–what the question I would follow, or that my characters would follow, would be.

But I added a new element into it. Might have it come back. I liked it a lot, would give a foil, but I’m worried it would be too “handlebar mustache, tied to the train tracks” type melodrama.

Nothing wrong with melodrama. It just has to be good.

The hardest thing today was STOPPING. I guess i”m worried about burnout. This is about process. This is about process.

Process and Completion, Process and Completion
Done is Good.

There. Now I have mantras.
